Khotang District, in Sagarmatha Zone, is one among the 75 districts of Nepal and Diktel is its district headquarters. The district is part of the area traditionally referred as Majh Kirat/Kirant (middle Kirat), home to the indigenous ethnic Kirat, Rai people. Apart from Rais, other ethnic groups and ‘hill castes’--such as the Brahmin, Chhetri, Tamang, Limbu, Sherpa and some of the traders, Newars (trading caste migrated from Kathmandu valley)--live in Khotang.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Gift to D2N Press Release
April 3, 2014
The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southeastern Michigan and national Ronald McDonald House Charities have awarded grants totaling $15,300 to support the Detroit2Nepal Foundation and Beaumont Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Rehabilitation Bike Program.
We are still excited about the success of our recent annual fundraiser at the Birmingham Bike Festival. Our Miles4Alex bike parade featured many of our children from Beaumont Children’s Hospital. D2N is proud to support “Bike Day”, providing custom adaptive bikes for children with special needs and the “Long Term Follow-up Clinic”, providing care for pediatric cancer survivors who have health issues following their live-saving treatment. We are grateful to Jeff Surnow and his to his staff, our teams and all the Bike Parade participants.
I returned to Kathmandu last night with ten hour bus ride from Jiri bazaar. the ride was highlighted by the maoist cutting down a huge tree to cause a road block (which was eventually pushed to the mountainside once there were enough stranded vehicles going both ways to provide the manpower) and some other type of traffic jam which after 45 minutes i just got my back pack off the roof and started walking west (direction of Kathmandu) until i found a taxi in the clear. had a hot shower, beer, dinner with friends, and a bed with linen... the simple pleasures we take for granted!
Plans are for me to go to Khotang tomorrow morning. Chokpa at the dZi foundation has made all arrangements for flying, scheduling meetings, notifying our two ngos in the field, arranging escorts during my stay and translating information for me. Ben Ayers of dZi has done everything from the field to help and support me/us. I have had amazing support from so many friends and family here. This will be a very different trip to Khotang for me.
Terrible news from Nepal. My sherpa brother and partner in khotang namgyal sherpa has died returning from everest summit. His body is 600 meters from the north side summit. There are no words to express my sorrow.
